Located just beside Braddell MRT Station’s Exit A and tucked beneath a HDB block is Gaia Acai, with a modest storefront amongst the other stores you can typically find in a residential area.
The café was characterised by natural wooden furniture, rustic shelving and leafy plants which gave the compact space a warm, slightly earthy character.
Seating was limited, making the café better suited to solo visitors, couples or small groups rather than larger gatherings. The space is also not air-conditioned, so it can feel warm during the hotter parts of the day. Still, the open, no-frills setting had its own neighbourhood charm.
The menu offered both classic and signature combinations, alongside options for customers who prefer to customise their own bowls. Toppings range from fresh fruits, crunches, toppings and drizzles.
Beyond the classics and signatures, the café expanded its selection to 2 new series – the Kunafa Series and Thick Yogurt Series.
From the Kunafa Series, I tried the Pistachio Kunafa Acai ($13.8), which came with an acai base, topped with sea salt chocolate granola, strawberries, brownie bites, pistachio kunafa and hazelnut chocolate drizzle. The kunafa was sweet and crunchy and came in a generous scoop.
From the Thick Yogurt Series, I had both the Hojicha ($14.8) and Black Sesame ($14.8). The texture of the yogurt was indeed thick and creamy, and showcased distinct flavours of the hojicha and black sesame which blended well with the tanginess of the yogurt.
As a treat on the side, the café also sold individual pieces of Dubai Chewy Cookie ($6), which you can enjoy on its own or add on to any bowl.
For those with a sweeter tooth, I would recommend the Kunafa Series, while for those who prefer the tart flavour of yogurt to balance the sweeter ingredients, I would recommend the Thick Yogurts.
With its convenient location, aesthetic and satisfying bowls in a laid-back setting, Gaia Acai is the sort of place I would happily return to for a cooling afternoon treat, especially on one of Singapore’s warm days.
